Squirrel Feeders

Squirrel Feeders come in a variety of styles. You can discourage squirrels from eating your expensive bird seed by providing them with their own feeders. Place the squirrel feeder at least 15 feet away from the bird feeders. Since most squirrels do not hibernate, feeding should continue year round.

In addition to providing food, you can provide squirrel houses to attract your furry friends. Tree squirrels normally nest in hollow tree cavities, which are becoming increasingly scarce. They will often utilize a squirrel house, and might even take over a large bird house if the opportunity arises.

Squirrel Facts:

Squirrels spend most of their time foraging and eating, except during severe cold weather when they may hole up for several days. Squirrels mate in midwinter, and the young are born 4-8 weeks later, depending on species. If food is plentiful, squirrels may have a second brood in mid-summer. Babies are born naked, blind, and completely dependent. Within five weeks, they develop fur and open their eyes. Squirrels mature in one year, and are fully grown by age two. Their average life span is about 10 years.

Squirrels are omnivorous and consume a varied diet in the wild. Provide a variety of raw foods including corn, nuts, sunflower and other seeds, fruit, and vegetables.
